This is a rather special story, because its connected with something that I hold very dear, my first day at school. This is quite a special day not only for me but for my family as well. Being the big kid, I was the first to begin school. we started it just months after the war in my country ended and as you can imagine it wasn't the greatest of schools, however, a good place to start ones education considering the political situation.
It was my aunt who first registered me at school. I felt happy about everything that was going on and loved every second of it (wish I could say I enjoyed all my school years as I did the beginning), we got assigned to a class and under a teacher (who currently is the principal of the same school). We began the world of academia with very few books (that our families had to purchase), but the books were good and the work of our teacher helped us grow. I truly believe that the happiest person in my family about me registering to my first year of school was my mother (recently had a conversation with her, she mentioned that she was ecstatic at those times because one of her kids would start school), she was always such a huge help. I remember her packing some lunch before I left for school and immediately after I came back she would wait for me at the door, would help me with my backpack. feed me and straight to doing the homework.
By nature I am quite calm, I never got involved in any kind of serious problem with friends or anyone else for that matter but something that I did with my best friend at the time and I still remember I wish to share with you today part of my "First Day at School" blog.
- On the first days of school you get some sort of vaccination (not sure what kind or against what kind of disease but it was something important) which I believe is obligatory for all the first graders. One day going to school (we sometimes would go there earlier that since we lived very near the school and hanged around, played football or something like that) we hear this strange rumor that on that particular day the process of vaccination is going to happen. At first we didn't believe this story since we never have heard about a process of that sort, but we saw the white mantels of doctors and nurses and got convinced that this was the day. Emotions running in our veins we didn't know what to do. . . Our FEAR got the better of us and we decided to run from the vaccines. (as I came to figure later in life the instincts take over a lot of times and this was no different). Running away was the easy part but being a first grader doesn't give you to many options of where you could spend 4-5 hours of your day (at those times our school worked with shortened classes). We made do with what he had (as you might guess Football was/is always an easy choice for us).
This wasn't the smartest idea we had at the time for a lot of reasons but one that I will mention here is that our teacher was also the uncle of my best friend which I ran with. He came to our houses told our mothers about the deed we had done. Spanking isn't always bad, especially done at the right time. I got slapped a few times which I didn't really mind (my friend too) and was forced to go the doctor to get the vaccination done.
In the end it wasn't really that bad, can't say that it didn't hurt, but definitely didn't hurt as much as I thought it would (funny that all the rest of the vaccination we did at school I was the first one to get it done LESSON LEARNED). .
